“Boss guitars” (Formally Hot Strings Guitar Shop) is a small guitar building school hidden away in the Northeast corner of Connecticut on my “First Light Farm.” I have been teaching guitar building for ten years and I offer guitar building classes in steel string (dreadnaught, OM, ooo and parlor), classical, 12 string ( Stella and Holzapfel and tenor guitars. Additionally I restore banjos and mandolins. My guitar building classes are for no more than two students at a time and they are held throughout the year. Each class is 120 hours in length. Traditional guitar building hand tools are emphasized during the course. Additionally, I produce and sell over 20 DVDs on various aspects of guitar building, guitar and banjo set-up and how to play the Tenor guitar and banjo.

Program is three years. Students build a classical guitar, a traditional steel string guitar, a modern guitar (nylon or steel string optional), an electric guitar, and an archtop guitar. Courses cover tonewood, restoration, CAD, economics, finishing, history, and maintenance of tools. The third year includes two months of work-training. Students who pass the final exam in high standard will earn the journeyman's licence.
